Craigmillar Book Festival Family Days

Welcome to some fun days out where the kids are invited to join creative workshops, meet awesome authors, enjoy storytelling, comic drawing, listen to stories, art activities, immerse themselves in books, dress up, partake in competitions and writing workshops. The family day offers plenty of events for children to enjoy. Free entry.

 

FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

FRIDAY MASH- UP!

Friday Mash- Up! brings you a collision of comics, arts, crafts, games, competitions, storytelling and Friday afternoon fun.  Bring your imagination to the page!

 

Friday 2nd of November // Craigmillar Library // 2 – 3pm // Ages: 7+:

PUPPETRY WITH ELSPETH CHAPMAN

Make your own puppet and learn how to be a puppeteer with theatre designer and puppeteer Elspeth Chapman. Age group: 7+ (children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult)

STORYTELLING SKILLS WITH YOUNGER AUDIENCES

Stories are for everyone, but how to engage young children in our stories? Join storyteller in residence at Craigmillar Book For Babies Eric Brennan in a practical session to develop your storytelling skills.

Join us for a family storytelling session with Heather Henderson – the perfect way to get out of the house and spend some quality time together!

 

THE ZOOM CLUB

Grab one of our cameras and start telling your own story! Think, make, create and disrupt using digital technology alongside more traditional hands-on making in our mega popular animation, photo and film workshop.

IT’S IN THE BAG!

Join us for a storytelling adventure; we use rhymes, songs, creative games, drama and puppets to bring the story to life. The children are given little riddles and have to guess what’s ‘in the bag’?

 

SCIENCE AND MAGIC CRAFT BONANZA!

Drop in and join the science and magic craft bonanza! Creativity and experimentation are in store with plenty of engaging activities and crafting opportunities.

 

DOCTOR BOOK

Stuck for something to read? Looking for new and exciting authors to explore? Doctor Book is on hand to dispense advice. You’ll even get your own reading prescription to take away with you. A simple medical procedure to cure your reading woes for babies, teens and even parents. No appointment necessary!

 

READING IS MAGIC SHOW

Saturday 17 November // 2 – 2.30pm // Craigmillar Library // Ages: 6 – 10

The Reading Rocks Magic Show is a special experience for children and their parents. Magician Gary James will WOW the audience with his tricks and illusion.

 

MAGIC SCHOOL

Saturday 17 November //  2.30pm – 2.50pm & 2.50 – 3.10 pm // Craigmillar Library //Ages: 7+

Join Gary James (aka one of Scotland’s top magicians!) to learn tips and tricks to be a magician.

 

 

FESTIVAL COMPETITIONS 2018:

This year you can enter three competitions!

Draw your own sea monster competition, a design a bookmark and a sticker competition and a writing competition. Ask for the competitions at Craigmillar Library. Win great prizes!

Enter by 3rd of December. Winners are announced 20th of December.
